Board Trout-A-Month Challenge
Join us on the Board Trout-A-Month Challenge where each participant has agreed to catch one trout per month in 2012. For any month the participant does not catch a trout, the participant has agreed to pay $10 for that month as a donation to Rivercourse. Please contact David Hollified for details and to sign up.
Monthly Streamside Outings:
The Monthly Streamside Outings for the Winter months (Nov. through Mar.) will be a Fly Tying Course lead by Jack McNeary, Thomas Adams and Alen Baker. These classes will be from 10 am until 2 pm at the REI store at NorthLake Mall in their Community Room. RRTU has several vices for your use but if you have your own, please bring them. There is a modest cost for the class to help defray our cost of materials. There will be classes for beginner and experienced tyers. Usually we have several members that come out to just socialize and talk fishing. We are looking for several volunteers to help with the Summer Streamside Outings. We need to have 3 or 4 members that would be willing to take a group fishing each month. When your month comes up, you decide the stream you want to fish and are in charge of the particulars of that Streamside. Please contact Bill Thomas or Joyce Shepherd for more information.
Appletree:
A three day tent camping trip held twice annually, in the Appletree
Group Campground on the Nantahala River. We usually book this trip on
the first weekend after the Delayed Harvest stocking by the NC
Wildlife Resources Commission. The dates for the Spring outing are
April 12, 13 and 14 (This is the week after Easter). This is our most
popular outing with only 50 members allowed on a first come first
served basis. It usually books up fast, so sign up early!
Camping fee will be $50 per person. This fee is for meals and camping
fees for Thursday through Sunday. (Friday through Sunday is $40 per
person). The dates for the Fall outing are October 4, 5 and 6 (
camping fee is the same but the site is smaller - limited to 25
people)These is a great outings for those that want to improve their
fly fishing skills, try new 'wild waters' or give back to the Chapter
and offer help to the new guys. We have several father and sons that
find this a great time to share. We usually have a few ladies that
attend and encourage more to participate. Our meals are one of the
highlights of the weekend and the fishing is usually superb and what
happens around the Appletree fire pit stays at Appletree fire pit.
Bring your own liquid refreshments.
