Instructional Fly Tyers

Fly Tying Checklist

Jack McNeary always attends Appletree and began suggesting that we need a Chapter sponsored fly tying class for those that are interested in learning to tie flies as well as those that already tie flies but would like to improve their skills. He was not hesitant to begin these classes and he has successfullly lead many beginners to the art and science of fly tying.

Jack is an arborist (retired), an amateur entomologist, skilled instructional fly tyer, and very active in RRTU.
Tom Adams is a professional advertising still life/fashion photographer and native Charlottean.  He is a professional fly tier and has several personal creations.  He is Past President of RRTU, co-authors the Fly of the Month article in the RRTU newsletter and online and serves on the North Carolina State Council of Trout Unlimited.

Tom is the co-author of Go-To Flies: Volume I which is available exclusively from RRTU. Tom is also the photographer for Fly Tying Lessons which will be published soon.

Alen Baker is an information technology professional (retired). He retired as a senior director from Duke Energy North America - Duke Energy International in 2007. He currently serves as a Board Director of RRTU, co-authors the Fly of the Month article in the RRTU newsletter and serves as Vice-Chair and the Conservation Committee Chair on the North Carolina State Council of Trout Unlimited.

Alen is the co-author of Go-To Flies: Volume I which is available exclusively from RRTU. He is the author of RRTU: The First Twenty Five Years which was published in 2006. His current book under development is Fly Tying Lessons, with Tom Adams as the photographer. Alen is also co-leading an effort to establish the Fly Fishing Museum of the Southern Appalachian which will be located in Cherokee, North Carolina.

Note: With good technical advice from John Oliver, and guidance from the Chapter Board, Alen Baker created this 100+ webpage website which will undergo "continuous improvement" by the Rocky River Trout Unlimited leadership and member experts authorized to edit specific pages of the website.
