Age 6 to 100: Learn Fly Casting
Yes, even a 6-year old child an learn to cast a fly and catch a fish!

The Rocky River Trout Unlimited Fly Casting Program is designed for everyone, the whole family. We teach fly casting in three (3) stages:

FIRST CAST:
We use simple, easy to cast Tenkara Fly Rods (no reel) for:
o   beginners from Age 6 to 100
o   those with physical challenges with their arm movement
o   those that have tried to use fly rods and did not get the hang of it
It is so easy that you may only want to use this method to fly fish!

NEXT CAST:
We teach the basics of casting a Fly Rod and Reel. This is traditional fly fishing. This method of fly fishing brings a full spectrum of fishing capabilities to those that want to pursue it.

RECAST:
Whether you want to use the simple Tenkara Fly Rod or the traditional Fly Rod and Reel, we continue our teaching streamside in the pursuit of trout.
Our chapter volunteers are willing to schedule a Fly Casting Day for a Boy Scout or Girl Scout Troop using either or both the FIRST CAST and NEXT CAST format during the summer months. We also plan to conduct one or more Kids and Parents Fly Casting Day events during the summer months. These events are best held outdoors in an open area around a pond.

Each Fly Casting Day event will touch on other related fly fishing subjects as follows:

FIRST CAST:
Tenkara Fly Casting
Fish, Bugs(kids love to find and catch bugs outdoors) and Flies (fun-oriented introduction)
Tenkara gear and rods (optional or follow-up)
Tenkara lines, tippet and relevant knots (optional or follow-up)

NEXT CAST:
Fly Casting, Forward Cast, Back Cast, Roll-Cast, Side-Casting (the basics)
Fish, Bugs and Flies (focused on trout and aquatic insects)
Fly Fishing gear, rods and reels (optional or follow-up)
Fly lines, backing, leaders, tippet and relevant knots (optional or follow-up)

RECAST:
As needed Fly Casting practice
As needed Fish, Bugs and Flies review
Requested optional or follow-up topics (Q&A like approach)
Streams and regulations (NC, general introduction for other states)
Reading water (finding and catching trout)

For these events you may bring your own fly rod or let us know that we will need to supply you with a fly rod to use.
