Friends of Rocky River (FORR) 2020

February 20, 2020  Thursday @ 6:00 pm

Friends of Rocky River Campaign
Trout Unlimited (TU) is a 150,000-member national non-profit committed to "Conserving, Preserving and Protecting" clean, cold water habitats.  The Rocky River Chapter of TU (RRTU) plays an active role in advancing the mission of the TU National through area partnerships with like-minded organizations.

The members of the Rocky River Chapter support a number of local area programs through our Friends of Rocky River annual fundraising initiative. Your donation will help support our outreach efforts that include:

  • Trout in the Classroom.  We have expanded again this year to 24 schools and 29 tanks. Currently, we supply aquariums, materials, and assistance to teachers in area schools (7 more than in 2016). RRTU volunteers bring trout eggs to the schools in September. Students in grades K-12 raise the rainbows during the school year and release them into local mountain streams on field trips in April and May.
  • River Course. We provide scholarships for  students to attend this one week intensive conservation course for students ages 13-15 from rural and urban backgrounds. RRTU also provides fly tying materials, marketing materials and developed new course manuals for 2020.
  • Casting Carolinas. Our members provide leadership and teaching in a cost-free weekend fly fishing retreat with this organization, which provides support and educational programs for women surviving cancer. We are also a sponsor of the Tie-One-On fundraising tournament.
  • Local cleanup efforts. We conduct cleanup efforts of our local streams by removing trash and assisting the park services in removing invasive plant species. In 2020, we are hoping to expand Conservation efforts.
  • Boy Scouts of America. We support and encourage local Fly-Fishing Merit Badge activities.

Your tax-deductible donation will help continue these local conservation programs. Please join your fellow fly fishermen in giving back to our community by making a generous tax-deductible donation to RRTU. If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to contact me here.
Sincerely,

Brian Esque
President, Rocky River Trout Unlimited
