RiverCourse
A Coldwater Conservation and Fly Fishing Youth Camp 

                                            June 11-16, 2023
The North Carolina State Council of Trout Unlimited and TU leaders across the state proudly support RiverCourse. The week-long program teaches basic fly fishing techniques, the ethics of coldwater conservation, and the importance of natural habitats to the well being of all living creatures.

Dates:
  • The 2025 camp is scheduled for the week of June 2025.
Location:
Lake Logan Center near Canton. The area features the pristine habitat and rich history of the West Fork of the Pigeon River and the mountainous region of Haywood County, North Carolina.

Program features:
  • Indoor and outdoor learning environments.
  • Fly-fishing and fly tying with plenty of practice on stocked streams.
  • Introductions to entomology, herpetology, stream restoration, wetlands ecology, and environmental policy.
  • Field trip to the Pisgah Natural Resource Center with a tour of the hatchery and demonstrations on trout anatomy and raising trout.
  • Outdoor experience along the nearby Davidson River where campers participate in planting native vegetation along a part of the riparian buffer along the river.
  • Swimming is an activity that may be offered, time and weather permitted. Certified lifeguard(s) will be on duty during swimming.

Lodging:
Campers are lodged in cottages with double occupancy rooms and private bathrooms. Adult chaperones are lodged with the campers. All meals are included and served at a modern dining hall.

Instructors and Staff:
Camp instruction is provided by Trout Unlimited members and personnel from the US Forest Service and the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission.
Camp staff is comprised of TU volunteers, including a camp doctor, committed to ensuring that the campers have an enjoyable, safe, and rewarding experience.

Pricing:
The cost of camp is $695.00 for the all-inclusive week. Tuition is not due until candidates have been notified of acceptance. Some financial assistance is available, if needed.

Participants:
A total of eighteen boys and girls ranging from 13-15 years of age will be selected to attend camp. Applicants must be 13 - 15 years of age on the first day of camp.
