The Fly Fishing Show

Many of the North Carolina fly shops have booths there as well as fly shops from around the country. A few good deals on fly fishing items can easily make the entry price worthwhile. There are a number seminars on casting and fly fishing techniques as well as near and far away destinations (e.g. coldwater, freshwater and soltwater are covered). Show Presenters, Fly Casters and Fly Tyers include well known guides, fly fishing professional and fly fishing writers.

The local Chapter (Blue Ridge Trout Unlimited) reserves a booth space for their chapter as well as NCTU. Other nearby Chapters typically have a booth. The Chapters involved and NCTU may need a few volunteeers to be present at the booth(s) for the two-day event as well. Plan to spend time among the Fly Tyers, the vendors, the seminars of interest and other booths of interest. Many attend both days of the event to take it all in. If you attend as a daytrip, plan for a very long day.

Western Fly Fishing Expo at the Asheville Convention Center (across from the airport)

The Western Fly Fishing Show was created by TU Life Member Frank Smith, owner of Hunter-Banks Outfitters in Asheville. The event is very similar in format to the original Fly Fishing Show with some of the same well known Presenter, Fly Casters adn Fly Tyers. However, more of the local fly shops have booths at the show. The destinations covered are a little more coldwater and freshwater oriented and a little less saltwater oriented. Many members attend both fly fishing shows as both Winston-Salem and Asheville are relatively short driving distances form Charlotte.
