Welcome to Spin Fishing for Trout!
Bring your spinning rods. You do not need to learn to fly fish to join us. We welcome you and your family to participate in any and all of our events.
As a child, most of us learned to catch a fish with either a zebco-like spinning rod or a cane pole. In general, a spinning rod with a closed-face reel is inexpensive, easy to learn to use, and highly reliable. This is the rod for our kids as they are marketed with character themes that appeal to kids. Barbie rods, Donald Duck rods, Spider Man rods and even Star Wars rods are available to fuel the young minds imagination while fishing. An ultralight combination spinning rod and closed-face reel with a high-tech drag system is economical, has virtually no risk of line intanglement
and is the preference of many less experienced anglers .
and is the preference of many less experienced anglers .
Some anglers prefer a spinning rod with an open-face reel. In most cases for just a little more expense and a slight risk of line intanglement when casting or retrieving line, the open-face system allows for longer casting distances since the line is not encased and is free to unspool.
Experienced anglers use a rod with a baitcasting reel. At an even greater expense and a risk of line intanglement when casting or retrieving line, a high-tech baitcasting reel provides a superior drag system to play the fish and allows for longer casting distances by handling heavier lures.
For small streams, spinners such as Panther-Martins or Rooster-Tails and even small spoons in the lightest weights work well to attract trout. Unscented soft plastic lures such as a Trout Magnet are highly productive. Powerbait is illegal on all public mountain trout waters. Natural baits such as worms, crickets and minnows may be used on stream sections that are regulated as hatchery supported or wild with natural bait. Natural baits are not allowed on stream sections regulated as delayed harvest, wild with artificial lure, Catch-a-Release or special regulations.
Note: As a group of Chapter members, their family and guests, we are committed to follow all fishing regulation when using spinning rods or fly rods at all times.
